2013 Minneapolis Competition

2013 Competition in Minneapolis

• Registration Deadline: Nov. 20, 2012
• Competition is March 15-17
• The event is hosted by Applause and it is a two or three-day event.
• Schedules will be released 7-10 days prior to the performance date. Sheri will let us know as soon as she knows when dancers/groups perform, which could be less than a week before we go to competition.
• Groups will practice at the Hotel prior to performances, usually the evening before. Practice Times for these will be announced after the performance schedule is released.
• Venue TBA.
• Parents are asked to take an active roll in their children's dance practices at home.
• Try-outs will be held prior to competition (excluding Toddies, Dolls, Crystals, Sapphires, Jewels, Gems & Spotlights) and only those prepared for competition will be able to participate.
• Dancers must be in their 2nd year at HBS to go to competitions, with the exception for the Diamonds, Crew, Sparx, Dazzlers, and Expressions who must try-out.

Competition Practice:
Saturday Practices will begin in January and try-outs will be in February. The practices run 15-90 minutes on each of the Saturday's mentioned. This is a commitment and practice is to be taken seriously. The only excused absences are illness and being out of town. Please let Sheri know ahead of time (if possible) if your dancer will be missing a practice.

Dancers must be stretched and ready to dance before practice begins. Sheri has the dancer for a very small time period on Saturdays and can't spend extra time warming them up. It is important that you communicate this to whomever will be dropping your child off so as to avoid injury.

2013 Practice Dates:
January - March
Additional practices may be scheduled in March to make up for missed practices due to weather or area dance shows.

Competition Fees:
Each dancer will pay a competition fee to cover practice DVD's, CD's, extra Practices and professional Competition Video. This fee will be dependant on the number of participants and will be due by Jan 7th.

Practice DVD's and CD's:
Practice DVD's and CD's will be given to every competition dancer and are included in competition fees.

Professional Competion DVD's:
Professional video will be given to every competion dancer and is included in competion fees.

Gift Bags/Fire up bags **this is a surprise for the dancer**
Groups may decide to have one person buy bags so they all match. If not, parents buying a gift bag (no bigger than 11 x 14) must put their dancer's name and class on the bag. You can purchase items for your dancer only or buy for the entire class. Class parents will have the number of dancers in your group you can purchase items for. All bags and gifts are to be handed out by the designated parent at the hotel prior to competition.

Items can include: Healthy snacks, coloring books/activity books, etc. (please keep with a dancer theme) Candy and pop aren't encouraged. One parent from each class will be responsible for bringing all the bags to the competition and handing them out the dancers. Please keep this in mind when purchasing items.

Minneapolis Competition Hotel Rooms

HBS will provide a block of discounted rooms (usually at Mendota Heights Courtyard by Mariott. )

Check-in is 3pm and check-out is Noon. Address is 1352 Northland Dr, Mendota Heights, MN.

All HBS dancers and minor children staying with HBS dance families have a curfew of 9:00 pm if your dancer dances the next day and 10:00 pm if your dancer does not dance the next day. You must have your dancer in the room by this time. They can only be in the hallways if they are with an adult after these times. The only exception to this will be the older dancers that have to go to practice. We are guests in the hotel and we need to remember there are others staying there as well, so we will be monitoring the halls.

Shoes must be worn by all guests and visitors -kids AND adults- in the hotel at all times, unless in the pool area.

Rooms reserved under our name are for immediate dance family only. (not friends, aunts, grandparents, etc.)

Other Minneapolis Competition Tidbits:
Personal video taping or photography during competition is prohibited. Anyone who is caught breaking this rule will put all of the HBS dancers in jeopardy of disqualification. Professional pictures can also be purchased at th event. (You can take pictures during the awards ceremonies, just not during the performances.)

No swimming before your dancer performs. (If your dancer performs Sunday, that means no swimming until Sunday evening.)

In the past, Sheri has asked that there is no site-seeing on the day your dancer performs unless it's after his/her performance. (... after do as you please) Running around town, shopping, visiting, etc wear the kids out. They need all their energy for this performance so let's preserve it.

This is a very long day. Please bring lots of things to keep the kids busy. In the past, they have had concessions but they are limited to pizza and cookies.

Please provide and share your cell numbers with others in your group. The competition has at times run behind or ran fast. They do not wait for anyone to arrive. So if we have each other's cell phone numbers we can stay in contact.

Please wear HBS gear to the performances and let's get FIRED UP!!
